Are sick visits right for me?

Anytime you struggle with bothersome symptoms of an illness, injury, or disease, don’t hesitate to call the LocalMD office. Friendly providers happily answer your questions over the phone to determine if you’re a candidate for sick visits or if simple at-home remedies are your best bet.

LocalMD offers virtual same-day exams if you prefer to speak with a specialist via your phone or tablet from the comfort of your home.

What should I expect during sick visits?

During in-person sick visits, your specialist weighs you; checks your vital signs; and examines your eyes, ears, nose, throat, breathing, skin, heartbeat, reflexes, and more during a physical exam. They also review your medical history and symptoms. If you opt for a virtual sick visit, your family medicine specialist completes a virtual physical exam if necessary.

They also review your medical history and symptoms. Your provider might suggest:

  • Throat or nasal swabs
  • COVID-19 testing
  • Saliva, urine, or blood tests
  • Allergy testing
  • Lung-function testing
  • Heart-function tests
  • STD testing
  • X-rays, ultrasounds, or other imaging procedures

After determining which illness or injury you may have, your primary care providers treat it appropriately to provide symptom relief and shorten your recovery time. They may recommend:

  • Rest, ice, compression, and elevation (RICE)
  • Wound care
  • Fracture care
  • Bracing, splinting, or casting
  • Rest and fluids
  • Diet and exercise changes
  • Stress reduction
  • Over-the-counter medicines
  • Prescription medications
  • Breathing treatments
  • Vaccinations
  • Injections
  • Referrals

If you’re very sick or have a complex medical condition, your LocalMD provider may refer you to a specialist or hospital care.
